You will continue to run northward until you reach the “elbow” that takes you west. Heads up here, there may be 31k runners coming your direction. When you pass the intermittent spring you have less than ½ of a mile to the turn around.

Stay on the high trail and soak in the views until you get to the turnaround aid station. Now all you have to do is retrace your steps to the start. When leaving the aid station stay on the low trail to the spring until you take a sharp left back up to the main trail about ¼ of a mile from the turnaround aid station. The climb back to the lakes is long. Stay hydrated and keep at it. There are a few false summits but you will get there. Eventually. Take care of yourself and before you know it you’ll be climbing back up “BALLS” again. It’s tough getting to the top but you’re biggest challenge waits for your weary-legged descent back to the reservoir. Hammer it home!

The majority of race expenses are incurred well before race day and therefore NO REFUNDS. Inside of 60 days of the event, you will be offered a 1 time roll over for the following year. If an emergency occurs and you would like to roll over you entry until the next year please contact the race director. It is also your responsibility to contact the race director to receive your coupon the following year.

In Afton drive 5 miles south on Hwy 89. Just as you are leaving the town of Smoot, take a left on Cottonwood Creek Rd/County Rd 153. It is about 6 miles to the cottonwood campground. The race starts on the northwest corner of the lake. Make sure you don’t park directly on the road on the north side of the lake. If the parking lot is full you will need to pull 1/4 mile back down the canyon to park.

You will start on the lower hiking trail at the Intermittent Spring parking lot. Make sure you take the sharp left up the embankment to the upper trail after about ¼ of a mile. You will work your way up swift creek canyon that will eventually swing to your right (south). It’s a grinder. Be patient and work your way to the first (cowboy) aid station about 5 miles in. You still have a bit of climbing on the course to get to the Corral Creek Lakes and the next aid station. Some fast switchback will take you out of the second aid station and lake. Keep your eyes up and make sure you follow the markers. A sharp right and a few more rollers will take you up to your last aid station. The climb up to the “balls” is daunting. Take a minute and take in a 360-degree view of the Salt River Range and catch your breath before you free-fall down to the finish. Once you hit the campground you are getting close. Stay left, cross the road and you’ll see that finish line.

The majority of race expenses are incurred well before race
